Westminster Hall Lantern

The whole lantern was carefully taken apart and labelled. In order to hold the lantern together, 6 new oak  tas-de-charges were made in the workshop, using a different foam template for each one. The oak ribs were repaired, with missing pieces replaced, and fitted with new dowel joints.  Larger rebates were cut out of every rib to secure the oak slats and stop them from falling out. On reconstruction of the lantern, these slats, along with some replacements of missing ones, had to be individually shaped and curved to fit. These slats also had to be dowelled together and secured with stainless steel wire. Finally all the timbers were carefully cleaned and stained.
