Shakespeare’s Globe

Shakespeare’s Globe, on the Thames at Southwark, was opened in 1997 as a reconstruction of the 16th-century theatre where Shakespeare’s plays were originally staged. For five years, during the tenure of Mark Rylance, we made many carvings, stage props and furniture for use in the theatre’s productions. In accordance with the ethos of the Globe, we used original materials and techniques in producing the pieces, using 16th and 17th century designs and drawings, and copying actual pieces in the Victoria & Albert and Geffrye Museums.
